God is present in the Church, He is represented specifically by the Altar. He is present in the Scriptures, and most especially in the proclamation of the Gospel. He is present in the people assembled in His name, and most especially He is present in the most Holy Eucharist. When consumed in Holy Communion, He is thus physically present in the communicant.

Why do Christians celebrate eucharist today?

Jesus' actions at the Last Supper became the basis for our celebration of the Eucharist. From the very beginning of the Church, the Eucharist formed the center of its life of worship. This is clearly indicated by the Acts of the Apostles. In the second chapter we hear that the 3,000 people baptized by the apostles on Pentecost devoted themselves to "the breaking of the bread," a Lucan term for the Eucharist. To this day, each time we gather for Eucharist, we remember and make present the Lord as Christians have done since Jesus first said, "Do this in remembrance of me." http://www.americancatholic.org/Newsletters/SFS/an0697.asp

Do people give christening gifts?

You don't have to, though many people do. As many people will have bought something for the baby already, they don't do so again. If it is for an adult, people may buy them a present or just have a celebration after.

What is important about the Holy Eucharist?

For me,it is the source and summit of all Christian life. In the Eucharist, the sanctifying action of God in our regard and our worship of him reach their high point. It contains the whole spiritual good of the Church, Christ himself. Communion with divine life and the unity of the People of God are both expressed and effected by the Eucharist. Through the eucharistic celebration we are united already with the liturgy of heaven and we have a foretaste of eternal life.

How is the Eucharist significant in the Catholic Church?

Catholic AnswerThe Eucharist is Jesus Christ, nothing more, nothing less, in other words, the Eucharist is God incarnate and bodily present in His Church. In the Eucharist, Jesus not only is with His Church, but He is His Church. Without the Eucharist, there is no Church, and without the Church there is no Eucharist. It is Our Blessed Lord present among us and feeding us and leading us to His Heavenly Father.from The Catechism of the Catholic Church, second edition, English translation 1994 1324 The Eucharist is "the source and summit of the Christian life." (Lumen Gentium 11)" The other sacraments, and indeed all ecclesiastical ministries and works of the apostolate, are bound up with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it. For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself, our Pasch." (Presbyterorum ordinis)1325 "the Eucharist is the efficacious sign and sublime cause of that communion in the divine life and that unity of the People of God by which the church is kept in being. It is the culmination both of God's action sanctifying the world in Christ and of the worship men offer to Christ and through him to the Father in the Holy Spirit." (Congregation of Rites, instruction, Eucharisticum mysterium, 6)1326 Finally, by the Eucharistic celebration we already unite ourselves with the heavenly liturgy and anticipate eternal life, when God will be all in all. (Cf. 1 Cor 15:28)
