I.T systems are starting to be enrolled across railway lines in more developed countries.
These systems can include automatic warning system (AWS) which warns train drivers of upcoming systems, and automatic train protection (ATP) which overrides a train drivers actions if they are believed to be unsafe ( eg, if speeding of crossing a red signal).
I.T systems are also being used in signalling centres to provide a interlocking system ( to ensure conflicting routes for trains cannot be set).
In the near future automatic signalling and train control will be implemented.
Hope this helps
