By and large, water is not a scarce commodity in New Zealand. In some dry areas, farming pressures do deplete the local aquifers, but that is not a large scale problem. some dry areas would include quite a bit of Canterbury, and Marlbrough. In some seasons, the Wairarapa may consider they have a drought, bit I've never heard of significant aquifer depletion there.
