Karl Marx and Friedrich Nietzche
The album HARVEST was produced by Neil Young, Elliot Mazer, Henry Lewy, and Jack Nietzche.
Friedrich Nietzche was a German philosopher who has become famous for saying that "God is dead." He did not mean that God died. Instead, he believed God never existed, and that humans have reached the point in history when they are beginning to understand that God doesn't exist. Nietzche declared that humans don't need to believe in a God, and that they are better off just believing in their own strength and willpower. Nietzche believed in willpower so much--and in the "death of God" so much--that many of his beliefs were used by the Nazis of World War II to help prove that starting World War II and having concentration camps to kill millions of people were good things. As a result, many people do not like or respect Nietzche in our modern times.
Nietzche. It comes from the quote (translated from German): "He who laughs best today, will also laugh last."
It is most commonly believed that 'Stringman' is about Stephen Stills. This COULD be true, but I have a strong hunch it is about Jack Nietzche, the man who did the STRINGS on Harvest (hint hint)
