Pentecost is very important in that on the Day of Pentecost the disciples of Jesus Christ were given the Holy Spirit to dwell in them permanently. Sometime later the Holy Spirit was given to the Samaritan believers in Jesus and then a little bit later the Holy Spirit was given to the Gentile believers in Jesus.

The Holy Spirit is what is so different in Christians from other persons. The Holy Spirit has been around from ever, but not until the Christian period began did the Holy Spirit indwell persons (Christians) like He does today.

I Corinthians 2:14, " But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." The natural man will never know the things of God or what The Bible truly says because they do not have the Holy Spirit dwelling in them.
