Lent is a Christian spring time holiday. Yom Kippur is a Jewish fall holiday. There is absolutely no link whatsoever between the two holidays.

a) Lent is Christian, Yom Kippur is Jewish

b) Lent is a 40 day partial fast (no meat), Yom Kippur is a 25-hour total fast (no food or drink at all).

c) Lent does not effect atonement, Christians say Jesus atoned for sin. Jews hold that Yom Kippur atones for sins between man and God, while only the victims can forgive sins between man and man.

d) Yom Kippur is at the end of a 5-week period of reflection and penitence that begins on the first of Ellul. During that interval, the liturgy reminds Jews to put things right with any people they have wronged. Perhaps that penitential season is closer to a parallel with Lent, while Yom Kipper might better be compared with Easter Sunday?
