The differences between birds, fishes, and humans include the following characteristics, traits, and facts:

Physical

  • The skeleton differs for all three.
  • The "chest" area differs for all three.
  • Breathing mechanisms differ for all three.
  • Birds have feathers; fish have scales; humans have skin. None can live long without these protective coverings belonging to each species.
  • Birds have wings that keep them aloft; fish have fins that keep them swimming; humans have arms that aid in balance and voluntary tasks.
  • Each have instincts, but humans are the only species that can use logical thinking to plan behavior and actions.
  • Birds have talons/claws; fish have no feet; humans have 2 feet with 5 toes that allow us to walk.
  • Birds have a beak with air holes; humans have noses; fish have none.
  • Birds don't have teeth; fishes teeth can be slanted backward and are very sharp and some have 2 rows of teeth; humans adult teeth become worn down and we only have one row of teeth.
  • Each has eyes, but birds can see a wide range of movement and their depth perception is better; fish see better underwater; humans' sight is impaired in bright light or night and underwater.
  • Humans have a much larger brain capacity, and humans are just plain smarter than any other animal, bird, or fish.
  • While birds can use talons as if they are hands, the human hand has more dexterity; fish have no hands.

Intelligence and behavior

  • Birds don't need security checks before take-off.
  • Birds get sucked into airline jet engines far more frequently than humans.
  • Birds use instincts to visually track prey; fish use instincts to "eat what and when they see it"; humans can plan, lay in wait, and ambush a prey. Some larger fish use their environment to ambush prey, such as by hiding in rocky openings and grabbing what comes by.
  • Humans can eat fish or birds at our whim, need, or desire; birds and fish only eat humans if the dead human body is left in the right environment.
  • Blood attracts some birds and some fish, whereas humans are usually repulsed by the scent and sight of blood.
