When a chemical reaction occurs, it can be described by an equation.

This shows the chemicals that react (called the reactants) on the left-hand side, and the chemicals that they produce (called the products) on the right-hand side. The chemicals can be represented by their names or by their chemical symbols.

Unlike mathematical equations, the two sides are separated by an arrow, that indicates that the reactants form the products and not the other way round.

Any chemical change in substance whether combination, decomposition, displacement or arrangement of the molecules of the substance which involves the transformation of matter into a new substance is termed as chemical equation.

A chemical equation is symbolic representation of a chemical reaction where the reactant entities are given on the left hand side and the product entities on the right hand side.[1] The coefficients next to the symbols and formulae of entities are the absolute values of the stoichiometric numbers. The first chemical equation was diagrammed by Jean Beguin in 1615.

the transfer of atoms from one group of molecules to another group of molecules. the number of atoms themselves never changes, but the molecules can. It is essentially a reordering of the atoms

e.g. 2H + O --> H2O

What number cannot be changed in a chemical equation?

You cannot change the subscripts in the molecular identities.For example, H2SO4 must remain H2SO4 and not changed to something like H3SO7.Furthermore, the total mass of the reactants must equal the total mass of the products.

What is the chemical equation for argon?

There is no chemical equation for argon. A chemical equation describes a process, not an element or compound. Argon does have a chemical symbol, which is Ar.
