It is done by general anaesthetic. You have either key hole surgery which you recover from in two weeks or if there are complications during surgery the doctors may have to revert to open surgery which takes a lot longer to recover from. Sometimes people who are rushed in with emergency gallbladder problems have to have open surgery. So I advise anyone with stabbing chest pain that occurs after eating a lot of fatty food or alcohol to get it checked out. As its much easier to have key hole surgery.
