An inline volt meter is designed to have the voltage pass through it. The wire has to be cut or otherwise disconnected, and the meter installed between the disconnected ends of the wiring.

If a voltmeter is hooked up in series it will?

It will prevent almost all current from flowing the circuit, since a voltmeter has a very high electrical resistance. Only ammeters (or milliammeters) should be wired in series between a power source and its load.

Will a voltmeter tell you if a load is on?

No

What happens when a voltmeter is connected in series with load?

when we connected voltmeter in series it takes large current and voltage and the resistance is considerably decreases.this is why we had connected voltmeter in series combination.

Why is the voltmeter is placed across the load to be measured?

Because that is what you are trying to measure.

Is a stop switch wired in series?

A stop switch is wired in series with the power supply and the load.

How are voltmeter connected to circuit?

Usually a voltmeter is connected across the load whether or not it is AC (Alternating current) or DC (Direct Current). A voltmeter is never connected in series with the load as this may cause serious injury or damage. The meter will absorb the full potential .

How does the voltage across a load is measured in a circuit with alternating current?

It's measured with an AC voltmeter.

How is ammeter and voltmeter attached to a circuit?

Ammeters are connected in series with the load under test. This requires the load be disconnected from the source, and the ammeter placed in circuit. Voltmeters are connected in parallel with the load under test. This does not require any circuit changes. Sorry, but WikiAnswers does not support illustrations.

How should a voltmeter be connected to measure voltage of a component?

Since voltage is electrical potential difference, to measure the voltage across a component, you place the voltmeter across, or in parallel with, the component.

The function and use of an ammeter and a voltmeter?

A: ACTUALLY they are both the same just the application makes one or the other. Their function is to measure potential difference on a load or circuitry

How do you test a cars alternator?

1st you start up the car. Hook up a voltmeter to the battery, and put a load on the battery as the car is running (have the lights on, radio on, high beam on,...) after you put a load on the battery read the voltmeter. if it goes below 12 the alternator is bad. It souldn't be no more than 14 volts. you can also use the battery gauge but to be 100% sure hook voltmeter to the alternator.

How you can minimize the loading effect on voltmeter?

Loading refers to the phenomena that occurs when a load circuit having low effective impedance is connected to a supply circuit having higher effective impedance.
