In simple terms, an atom is made up of Protons, Neutrons, and Electrons. Protons have positive charge (+1), Neutrons have no charge (0), and Electrons have negative charge (-1).

If an atom gains or loses Electrons, it's net charge changes. To result in a negative charge, the atom must have more Electrons than Protons.

What is the charge and the name given to an atom that loses electrons?

when an atom loses an electron it becomes positive because it just lot a negetive part to its structure. The name given to these positively charged particles is Cation

An atom becomes and ion with a change of?

The number if electrons it has. Neutral atoms have the same number of protons (pos charge) as electrons (neg charge). When atoms gain or lose electrons (to become more stable), they become ions.

What are the charges of subatomic particles and their locations in the atom?

There are 3 subatomic particles in the atom. The photon has a positive charge and is found in the nucleus. The neutron has no charge and is found in the nucleus. The electron has a negative charge and is on the outside of the nucleus moving around the nucleus.

When sodium chloride is formed from a positively charged sodium atom and a negatively changed chlorine atom the charge on the salt becomes natural?

Na+ and Cl- together NaCl (neutral), equal number of pos. and neg. charges add up to neutral (zero charge): so, it's truetrue

What is an atom that has given up or gained electrons?

Atoms that have lost or gained one or more electrons are called ions.An atom that has gained and electron is an anion; and atom that has lost an electron is a cation. Gaining an electron means the anion has a negative charge; losing one or more electrons means the atom has a positive charge.

What name is given to the core at the centre of the atom and what charge has this core?

The core at the center of the atom is called the nucleus. The nucleus contains protons, which have a positive charge, and neutrons, which have no charge. As a result, the overall charge of the nucleus is positive due to the presence of protons.

Which particle determines the nuclear charge?

Protons determine the nuclear charge of an atom. Each proton carries a positive charge and is located in the nucleus of an atom. The number of protons in an atom determines its atomic number and therefore its nuclear charge.

Neg=Ground, with nowhere for the charge to escape, then it will not complete the circuit
