i have found if you dont want to try and strip the plate off just use regular dish soap or a polishing cloth(you can purchase at most retail/jewelry stores.if you try and use baking soda or any other more harsh cleaner it will take the plate off or wear it off much faster.but beware,if you let plated jewelry soak in anything for more than lets say 15-20minutes,the plate will come off and stain any other jewelry pieces with it and it will turn rusty and its almost impossible to reverse the damage.i had that happen to me more than once because i got caught up doing something and totally forgot about the jewelry i was cleaning.
