Best Answer

The government and companies will pay states and cities money for using their land for storage of nuclear waste. Nuclear waste can be dangerous, but when stored safely it is no danger. Nuclear waste is produced by nuclear power plants, which produce large amounts of cheap electricity.

Advantages and disadvantages of nuclear power plant?

Nuclear power is neither good nor bad. The way nuclear power is produced (Safety) can be good or bad, though. Nuclear power can be generated by small power plants, creates no air pollution, and is safe when done right.

What has been done with nuclear waste?

The honest answer is the USA has been producing a great deal of nuclear waste and ignoring the problem of what to do with it. President Obama wants more nuclear power plants, but, has not said what to do with nuclear waste. A lot of waste is stored in nuclear power plants, but, they are getting filled up fast, and that is not really a good idea. The possibility of an accident or theft is very real.

Why are nuclear wast products a problem?

Nuclear waste products can leave isotopes that contaminate the environment and cause heath problems.

How do nuclear fuels relate to environmental issues?

Nuclear fuels is not only bad for us, but for the enviornment. Some nuclear plants dump nuclear waste in rivers, oceans, lakes and ponds. This can kill and injure living organisms including us. It is not even good to bury it in the ground. Nuclear waste has to be specially desposed.

Why is nuclear power stations not good?

They are not good because of the pollution rate and the fact that the waste production is very hard to dispose of

What are ome of the good things about the nuclear plant like in Chernobyl?

Nuclear power plants produce large amounts of energy which are generally better then using fossil fuels. The downside, in case you wanted to know, is the waste product is nuclear waste which is highly radioactive, and can give you radiation sickness, or cancer. The waste takes approx. 100,000 years to stabilize.

Do nuclear power stations give out clean waste?

No, the waste is radioactive and has to be stored and cooled for thousands of years to come. Research is being done into firing neutrons at the waste to deradiate them. this is a good answer. good job. i never knew that. i learn stuff everyday :D

Is nuclear energy good for the environment?

No, nuclear energy is not good for the environment because after they get the energy there is nuclear waste which is radioactive and is NOT good for the environment. It can be if well controlled, as no carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases are produced. However if things go wrong as in Japan now (March 2011) then it is definitely not good for the environment or the people who live in it.

Should nuclear waste be stored near plate boundaries?

A long term repository for nuclear waste is required to be geologically stable, so that we can be sure it will not change over many thousands of years. A subduction zone might seem a good idea, getting rid of the waste into the earth's mantle for a very long time, but the movements are not predictable and are accompanied by earthquakes so perhaps not such a good idea.

What are potential problems of using nuclear energy?

Currently we do not have any good solutions for disposing of the nuclear waste, which will remain dangerously radioactive for thousands of years. Additionally, accidents and nuclear power plants can be catastrophic and can potentially make an area uninhabitable.
