Cell replication. Cells do not live forever, and in light of this, they must pass their genetic information on to new cells, and be able to replicate the DNA to be passed on to offspring. It is also required that fragments of DNA (genes) have to be copied to code for particular bodily function. It is essential that the replication of it is EXACT. In order for replication to occur, the following must be available * The actual DNA to act as an exact template * A pool of relevant and freely available nucleotides * A supply of the relevant enzymes to stimulate reaction * ATP to provide energy for these reactions When replicating, the double helix structure uncoils so that each strand of DNA can be exposed. When they uncoil, the nucleotides are exposed so that the freely available nucleotides can pair up with them. When all nucleotides are paired up with their new partners, they re-coil into the double helix. As there are two strands of DNA involved in replication, the first double helix produces 2 copies of itself via each strand. It is said that the replicated DNA is semi-conservative, because it possesses 50% of the original genetic material from its parent. These 2 new copies have the exact DNA that was in the previous one. This template technique allows genetic information to be passed from cell to cell and from parents to offspring.

Is A gene is a subunit of information within a chromosome?

Yes, a gene is a specific sequence of DNA that contains the instructions for building a protein or performing a specific function. Genes are located on chromosomes within the cell nucleus.

The combined genetic information of all members of a particular population is the population's?

The combined genetic information of all members of a particular population is the population's gene pool. This gene pool contains all of the genetic variations that exist within the population, which can influence the population's ability to adapt to environmental changes and evolve over time.

Is a cell smaller or bigger than a gene?

A cell is larger than a gene. Genes are segments of DNA that contain information for making proteins, while cells are the basic building blocks of living organisms that contain many genes within their nucleus.

Allele in gene or gene in allele?

An allele is a specific variant of a gene, which is a unit of hereditary information. Genes can have different alleles that produce variations in traits. Therefore, alleles exist within genes as different versions or forms of the same gene.

What is a gene pool consists of all the genes within a?

A gene pool consists of all the genetic information carried by the individuals in a population. It includes all the different alleles for each gene present in the population. Changes in the gene pool, such as through genetic drift or natural selection, can lead to evolution within a population.

If you knew the sequence of nucleotides within a gene which one what could you determine with the most accuracy?

Knowing the sequence of nucleotides within a gene allows you to determine the specific amino acid sequence of the protein encoded by that gene with the most accuracy. This information is crucial for understanding the structure and function of the protein and its potential role in biological processes.

What makes up a gene pool of a population?

A gene pool of a population is made up of all the different alleles (versions of a gene) present in the individuals that make up the population. It represents the genetic diversity within a population. The more diverse the gene pool, the greater the genetic variability within the population.

What can't a karyotype show?

A karyotype cannot show detailed information about specific gene mutations or variations. It also cannot detect chromosomal rearrangements at a very small scale. Additionally, it does not provide information on gene expression levels or functional characteristics of genes.

Where can one find more information about gene dolls?

One can find more information about the Gene Marshall collectible fashion dolls on Wikipedia, or in the books 'Gene Marshall, Girl Star' and 'Gene' by Carolyn Cook.

Is inversion a type of gene mutation?

No, inversion is not a type of gene mutation. Inversion is a genetic rearrangement where a segment of DNA is reversed within a chromosome, but it does not change the genetic information or sequence of the genes. Gene mutations, on the other hand, involve changes in the DNA sequence of a gene, which can lead to altered protein production and potentially cause genetic disorders.

What is gene expression-?

Gene expression is the process by which the information encoded in a gene is used to direct the assembly of a protein molecule. The cell reads the sequence of the gene in groups of three bases. Each group of three bases (codon) corresponds to one of 20 different amino acids used to build the protein.

Relationship between gene chromosome and DNA?

Hi, Chromosome are structure within cells which contain genetic information that is passed from one generation to other generation. Gene is a section of chromosome. A Gene carried coded information within sequence of chemicals. When needed particular information is decoded and used to provide for protien synthesis within the cells. Deoxy-ribo-nucleic(DNA) is the chemical which carries the genetic code.
