How is it possible to have autism and still be very highly functional?

my brother has autism and is highly intelligent,its his emotions that he is challenged with.remember though there is a huge spectrum of autistic people and there needs differ greatly.
i have autism and an IQ of 130, its just social things we find difficult

∙ 8y agoFunctioning labels are offensive - it's a way of identifying which Autistic people are more like Neurotypical people, so more acceptable, which is inherently ableist.
Functioning labels are also meaningless because it's a matter of opinion who would be considered 'high-functioning' or 'low-functioning'. Often the terms are also used to silence or dismiss Autistic people, often parents of Autistic children try to silence Autistic people by saying they're 'high-functioning' so don't know what it's like to be 'low-functioning' like their children (even if Autistic adults were more severely effected than their children), so again functioning is about value ad judgement put on Autistic people. Please do not use such terms.

Autism isn't something that you overcome, Autism is your identity - you are always Autistic, there is no way to change that. As someone who is Autistic you will still display traits of your neurology.
