How is love and forgiveness a theme for new moon?

New Moon revolves around Edward leaving Bella, which drives her to near insanity because she loves him so. She remains in severe physical and emotional pain because she misses Edward and believes he no longer cares for her whatsoever. Meanwhile, a misunderstanding leads Edward to believe that Bella has died and he very nearly ends his own life before Bella stops him by proving that she is indeed alive. They are reunited at last and Edward reveals that the reason he left in the first place was to set Bella free from the dangers of being associated with he and his vampire family and their enemies. He left her out of love, because he thought it was the best thing for her, but both Edward and Bella remained tortured throughout the duration of their separation. Edward clearly blames himself for Bella's pain over the last months since his plan for her to move on and live a normal life did not transpire. Her love for him was far too strong to forget. He begs Bella's forgiveness for him deserting her, and she does.
