A mirage is when rays of light attempt to travel through different densities of air on top of each other. It travels slower in the thicker densities and faster in the thinner ones, and also may change direction. This confusion in direction and speed causes images to appear in the human eye, when in fact they are not there. Mirages are NOT the same as hallucinations; they are caused by drugs etc.
