Fables and Folklore are made up stories, from imagination really, While a myth, and mythology, is more complicated. A Myth starts at the beginning of a new civilization, and when the people don't know how anything works, they start a myth. A myth is a story that people tell to explain how things work. Before science came along, people thought that gods made every thing happen, Like a thunder storm starts when Zeus got mad, or that the world gets cold for half a year because Demeter looses her daughter to Hades for half of the year. So in simpler words. Folklore and Fables are stories made up for fun, and a Myth is a story that explains how the world works. I hope i helped.

Fables and legends are from a different source. Fables are made up to express a point or moral. Legends have origins that may or may not have been true but are usually embellishments of the truth to emphasize the meaning of the story. So the answer to fables is no. Legends? Maybe.

Mythology contrary to popular belief is not only used in Greek and Roman cultures, but it is used by all societies. Mythology is the legends and fables cultures use to explain natural occurences and to influence the behavior of it's people. These stories originated in different ways depending on the culture some are exaggerations of a small truth while others are purely fiction created to influence people.
Some examples of legends from the Philippines include the legend of the pineapple, the legend of Maria Makiling, and the legend of the Sarimanok. Fables in the Philippines include "The Monkey and the Turtle," "The Bear and the Turtle," and "The Story of Bantugan."
Mythology is the legends and fables of a culture and is typically used to explain occurences the people did not understand. Certain mythological stories can be traced back to periods of time but that depends on the culture telling the story. As long as humans have been able to speak stories have been told... so mythology in general is about as old as we are.
