The essential idea is the same: diffusion is the process by which molecules spread from areas of high concentratiion, to areas of low concentration.

Osmosis is the process by which molecules of WATER spread from areas of high concentration (such as a dilute solution) to areas of low concentration (such as a concentrated solution), typically through a selectively permeable membrane.

In short: Diffusion occurs as is, while osmosis occurs through a semi permeable membrane.

How are osmosis and diffusion different?

Diffusion is the net movement of a substance through a membrane from a higher concentration to a lower concentration. Osmosis is the diffusion of water.

What are 3 different passive transports?

Diffusion, osmosis, Facilitated Diffusion

How is osmosis different than diffusion?

Osmosis is the same thing as diffusion, but occuring only with liquids in a selectively permeable membrane. An example of this is that water entering your cells is osmosis, but oxygen entering is diffusion.

What are the differences of the processes of osmosis and diffusion?

Osmosis is the diffusion of water.

How do osmosis differ from diffusion?

osmosis is diffusion through a membrane

How is osmosis different from simple diffusion?

Osmosis is very similar to normal diffusion, but osmosis is only the movement of water through a "partially permeable membrane" where as simple diffusion is the movement of anything from an area of high concetrations to low, such as gas in a room.

Are diffusion and osmosis passive or active transports?

Diffusion and osmosis are passive and do not require energy.

Osmosis is the diffusion of?

Osmosis is the diffusion of water across the cell membrance

How do osmosis and diffusion differ?

Diffusion is the movement of molecules from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. Osmosis is the movement of water molecules from high to low through a partially-permeable membrane. This is what makes osmosis different to diffusion.

Are earthworms diffusion or osmosis?

osmosis

What is the diffusion of water through the cell membrane is called?

Facilitated Diffusion

What type are osmosis and diffusion?

diffusion and osmosis are types of ways to get materials into or out of a cell
