Political Science is the study of politics-- political campaigns, political rhetoric, political strategies, the history of political parties, etc. Political scientists also do research into such topics as why people vote the way they do, what the common perceptions are about the various candidates, and why certain presidents are more popular than others. In the US and other countries, political scientists provide analysis and non-partisan discussion about the political process. The media will often use political scientists as experts, to explain why an election turned out the way it did, or why certain issues resonated with voters but others did not. Among the well-respected political scientists in the US are Robert D. Putnam, Jacob Hacker, Doris Graber, and Larry Sabato.

It cannot be more emphasized that the study of political science heavily involves the study of governments and how they work.
