well The Bible is about God and how he sent his only son Jesus on the cross for out sins, and the Bible says if u believe that and pray everyday for your enemies, for parents, your needs, and homless people, and pray for your sins to be forgiven, then he will forgive your sins for that is what Jesus did for us.
Reading anything helps you to learn how to read better. The Bible is a good book to read because it is written in old-fashioned language, which is harder to understand. If you can learn how to understand it, you will really be a good reader.
The Scriptures are important because they help you to grow in your Christian life. Reading the Bible daily will help you spiritually, and it helps us to see what God says. The Bible is a sword and shield.

Bible commentaries offer a translation in a more familiar use of words. Sometimes the older words used in the bible are not familiar to the reader. Using a dictionary while reading the Bible is a great help. But the commentaries are not the Bible they are notes to help on understand what was trying to be said.
There is no set number of readings in general but there are structured 'readings' for topical or thematic purposes. A very common reading plan has 365 smaller readings in total to help the reader complete the whole Bible in a year. Some religious organizations create reading plans for didactic reasons to help their membership understand their particular beliefs.
Joining a bible study group is a good first start to read the Bible with a group of others. Having a mix of new and mature Christians allows the young Christians to ask questions and the mature Christians to see Bible again from a fresh perspective. Some Churches also have Bible 101 or Bible foundational lectures or short courses to help introduce the Bible and how to read it. For reading of the Bible cover to cover it is strongly recommend to use a Bible Study reading program and keeping to a schedule. You can print out a reading schedule and keep it in your bible. I found it useful with such reading plans where you check off each day's reading. Like anything you need a goal, a plan to get there, and the endurance to keep at it but the secret is to not get discouraged when you get behind. It's not uncommon to take 2 years to finish a "one-year" plan.

Actually, many versions of the Bible do have footnotes that help you understand words that are confusing. Here is the online version that I use... http://scriptures.lds.org/ Click on any word that you don't understand and it will give you footnotes that tell you where else in the scriptures you can find the word, or give you help about the interpretation from the original language. (This is the King James version, and the links to the Old Testament and the New Testament are the ones that will take you to the different parts of the Bible.)

Take time to reflect on their meaning and how they apply to your life. Consistent practice of reading and meditating on these verses can help deepen your faith and provide you with the strength you need to face challenges.
