Cardiac muscle is a type of involuntary striated muscle found in the walls and histologic foundation of the heart, specifically the myocardium. Cardiac muscle is one of three major types of muscle, the others being skeletal and smooth muscle. The cells that comprise cardiac muscle, called myocardiocyteal muscle cells, are mononuclear, like smooth muscle cells.[1]

Coordinated contractions of cardiac muscle cells in the heart propel blood out of the atria and ventricles to the blood vessels of the left/body/systemic and right/lungs/pulmonary circulatory systems. This complex of actions makes up the systole of the heart

Skeletal muscle is a form of striated muscle tissue existing under control of the somatic nervous system. As its name suggests, most skeletal muscle is attached to bones by bundles of collagen fibers known as tendons.

Smooth muscle is an involuntary non-striated muscle. It is divided into two sub-groups; the single-unit (unitary) and multiunit smooth muscle. Within single-unit smooth muscle tissues, the autonomic nervous system innervates a single cell within a sheet or bundle and the action potential is propagated by gap junctions to neighboring cells such that the whole bundle or sheet contracts as a syncytium (i.e., a multinucleate mass of cytoplasm that is not separated into cells). Multiunit smooth muscle tissues innervate individual cells; as such, they allow for fine control and gradual responses, much like motor unit recruitment in skeletal muscle.

One of the differences is where the muscles are located, cardiac muscle is found only in the heart, Smooth muscle in places such as the digestive system. skeletal muscle is found join to the skeleton. Although cardiac muscle and smooth muscle are involuntary muscles, cardiac muscle is striated muscle and smooth muscle is non-striated muscle. In the other hand, skeletal muscle is totally voluntary.

What are some different types of muscles?

There are three muscle types, skeletal, smooth and cardiac. Skeletal and cardiac are both striated muscle, whereas smooth muscle is not.

What are the 3 different muscle types?

The 3 different types of muscle are smooth, cardiac, and skeletal muscle. Smooth muscle is located on the walls of hollow organs, cardiac muscle is located on the wall of the heart, and skeletal muscle is located on skeletal muscle organs (most organs). Their functions include movement in walls of hollow organs, pumping of blood, and movement of bones, heat production and posture, respectively. Cardiac and smooth muscle are involuntary, whereas skeletal muscle is voluntary. Both cardiac and skeletal muscles have striations, but smooth muscle does not.

How is cardiac muscle similar both muscle smooth and skeletal muscle?

Cardiac muscle tissue, like skeletal and smooth muscle tissue, can undergo hypertrophy.Unlike both smooth and skeletal muscle, cardiac muscles have cells that branch.

What are the three types of muscles?

The three types of muscle are skeletal, smooth, and cardiac muscle.Well anatomically speaking the three primary types of muscles are: skeletal, smooth, and cardiac.

What is cardiac smooth muscle?

There is nothing really called 'cardiac smooth muscle'. Cardiac muscle is striated like skeletal muscle but it is not under your control like skeletal muscle is. It acts more like smooth muscle because of this reason. But we only use the terms smooth muscle, striated (skeletal) muscle or cardiac muscle.
