The smallest and most important element of the US Army is the individual soldier. Soldiers are grouped in units from smallest to largest by Squads, Platoons, Companies/Batteries/Troops (depending on the type of unit), Battalions/Squadron (depending on unit type), Brigades/Regiments/Groups (depending on unit type), Divisions, and Corps. Before and during WW2 Corps were organized by theater of operation under Armies, but this level hasn't been utilized since the end of WW2. The seven US Army Corps answer directly to the Pentagon and Department of Defense.

well the army is organized by ranks There are three sections of ranks enlisted men private through sergeant major - warrent officers in the middle warrent officers grade 1-5 - the the highest are officers ranking 2nd lieutenant to general of the army
