Genesis 18 tells of three men (who appear to have been elohim, 'gods') who visited Abraham and told him that his elderly wife would have a son, before discussing their plan to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. The Christian view of the three men as the Holy Trinity helps to explain away the existence of three elohim in this passage, although the Holy Spirit is never represented in Christian literature as taking human form.

The statement that the three elohim represent the Holy Trinity is an example of a trick that Burton L. Mack (Who Wrote the New Testament) sees happen all the time, in the classrooms of the School of Theology at Claremont. One can ask any question of The Bible and get some kind of answer. If the first answer does not appear to be helpful, one can look for another answer to the same question, until the right answer appears. So it is here: the Holy Trinity is represented in Genesis 18 if the reader wants it to be.

Why is the Holy Trinity not in the Bible?

The doctrine of the trinity is expressed by Jesus' words in the Great Commission: Matthew 28:18-20 ................baptizing them in the name of the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit. There are other clear indications of the Trinity in the Bible e.g. 2 Corinthians 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.

Where did Abraham live when God made His promise?

God promised the Holy Land to Abraham four times. The first time, he was in Shechem (Genesis 12:6-7), after having come to the Holy Land as God had commanded him (12:1). The second time, he was camped between Beit-El and Ai (Genesis 13, verses 3 and 14-15). The third time, his exact location is not stated (Genesis 15, verses 7 and 18), but an ancient tradition informs us that he was on the slopes of Mount Hermon. The fourth time (Genesis 17:8), he was apparently in Hebron (based upon 18:1, which was a few days later). All of these places are in Israel.

What did Abraham promise to do when he entered the covenant with God?

God commanded Abraham to circumcise himself and his male descendants (see Genesis ch.17), and He promised to give Abraham the holy land (Genesis ch.15). Abraham is not quoted there as having verbally promised anything, but from Genesis 18:19 it is clear that he undertook to raise a family that would serve God and go in His ways.

Does the catholic church recognize baptism in the unitarian faith?

No. The Catholic Church only recognizes baptisms with the formula, "I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit," which use water, either poured over the head or through immersion. Even quasi-Trinitarian formulas, such as "I baptize you in the name of the Creator, Redeemer, and Sanctifier," are not considered valid. One reason for this is because technically speaking, "Creator" does not distinguish God the Father from the Son or the Holy Spirit; the entire Trinity creates. Furthermore, the proper name of the Trinity is "Father, Son, and Holy Spirit," as Jesus declares in Matthew 28:18-20.
