They are totally different and not comparable. The Roman Republic existed 2,400 to 1,800 years before the creation of the US. We are are talking about totally different eras and totally different societies and cultures. Also note that a Republic is a state not ruled by kings, emperors, princes, or dukes. The term Republic means just that. A Republic can be a democracy or a dictatorship. Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia and most of dictatorships which exist or have existed in the modern world are/were republics.
