The Book of Mormon is really quite unique but does bear some resemblance to other published and unpublished works.

While I wouldn't say the Book of Mormon is similar to The Bible, it is comparable to the Bible; and is indeed considered by believers to be a companion scripture to the Bible, as they verify and testify of each other. The language, values, and religious doctrines found in the Bible are repeated in the Book of Mormon, and one must have at least a basic knowledge of the Bible in order to understand and appreciate the Book of Mormon.

Some critics have said that the Book of Mormon was plagiarized from an unpublished story manuscript written by Solomon Spalding. Spalding's story was a fictional historic romance set in the culture of the mound-building civilizations in North America and purported to be translated from a record found either in a cave or buried underground in Ohio. It was about Romans from the fourth century discovering America. The Book of Mormon was translated from a record found buried in New York and tells the story of Israelites traveling to the Americas to flee the prophesied destruction of Jerusalem in 600 BC and the history of their descendants through 300 AD. Most historians, even anti-Mormon historians, agree that while the general plot between Spaulding's manuscript and the Book of Mormon are similar, it his highly improbable that those associated with the Book of Mormon's publishing were acquainted with Spalding's manuscript story.

Some ideas found in the Book of Mormon were previously published in the book View of the Hebrews by Ethan Smith, a Congregationalist minister. These ideas, including the idea that the Native Americans are one of the lost Tribes of Israel, were somewhat common among Christians of the day. View of the Hebrews has been used to both support and refute the Book of Mormon.

How are the book of Mormon and the quran the same?

They are both religious texts considered scripture by their believers, but otherwise they are not very similar. The Qur'an is comperable to the Bible and has some similar stories. Because Mormons use both the Bible and the Book of Mormon, there was no need to repeat the Bible stories in the Book of Mormon.

What year did the book of Mormon add the words another testament of Jesus Christ?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints added the subtitle "Another Testament of Jesus Christ" to the Book of Mormon in 1982 in order to clarify and emphasize the purpose of the Book of Mormon. All copies of the Book of Mormon published by this church today carry this subtitle. Other denominations in the Mormonism movement that publish their own editions of the Book of Mormon, as well as private and commercial printings, generally do not include the subtitle.

What book in The Book Of Mormon is the same as Genisus?

There is no book in the Book of Mormon that is the same as Genesis. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) use the Bible, so there is no need to duplicate it in the Book of Mormon. The Book of Moses in the Pearl of Great Price is similar. It is not exactly the same because it has more detail. The Pearl of Great Price is also considered a book of scripture in the Church, in addition to the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and the Doctrine & Covenants. You can compare the books at the "Related Link" below.

Did Ellen g white quote the book of Mormon?

i'm not sure but i would be willing to find out. Another answer: There are some similarities between the words of Ellen G. White and Joseph Smith. The similarities are not significant enough, in my opinion, to prove that she plagarized or was influenced by Joseph Smith's teachings. She had a similar upbringing to Joseph Smith and that could be why she used some of the same terms and had similar ideas. There is no evidence that she ever quoted the Book of Mormon directly, but she did use some of the same terms that the Book of Mormon uses (terms such as "carnal security", "bar of God", "plan of Redemption", and the idea that mortality is a time of "probation"). The strongest evidence of copying the Book of Mormon is that one of her visions somehwat resembles a vision recorded by the ancient prophet Lehi in the Book of Mormon.

What words did the book of Mormon contribute to the English language?

Most of the unique words in the Book of Mormon are proper names. These words are not in common use in the English language, aside from a few cities and towns which were founded by Mormons and given these names. For example: Nephi, Lehi, Cumorah, Manti, or Moroni. The word "Mormon" comes from the Book of Mormon, and is probably the most used unique Book of Mormon word in the English language. Another unique word in the Book of Mormon is 'Deseret' which means honeybee. The word Deseret is often used in businesses or organizations owned by Mormons or the Mormon church - for example, Deseret Book, Deseret Industries, Deseret Ranch, and Deseret Transportation.
