A "cell wall" is found in plant cells, and a "cell membrane" is generally found in animals.

A "cell wall" is made of cellulose whereas a "cell membrane" is made up of lipids and proteins.

A "cell wall" is completely permeable and a "cell membrane" is partially permeable.

The cell membrane is on both an animal and plant cell, while a cell wall is a stiff 'box' shape enclosing a plant cell.

Analogy

Think of a cell membrane as a plastic bag, filled with clear jelly, with a large blob of modeling clay in it (the clay being the nucleus). This represents an animal cell.

Now add a small box and a few green blobs of clay to the inside of the bag (these are the plant cell's vacuole and chloroplasts). Put the plastic bag and its contents into a large box. This is a plant cell, and the big box is the cell wall.

1.Cell wall is found in plant cell and cell membrane is found in animal cells.

2.Cell membrane is covered by the cell wall which forms the outer most covering.

3.Cell wall is completely permeable whereas cell membrane is semi-permeable.

4.Cell wall is made up of cellulose and cell membrane is made up of lipids and proteins.

5.Cell membrane is also known as plasma lemma.

Most animal cells are contained within a cell membrane. Plant cells and most bacteria are contained within a cell wall. The differences in structure generally lend the cell wall greater structural rigidity than that of the cell membrane. On the other hand, the cell membrane allows the cell to be more deformable.

The cell membrane has small holes in it called pores that allow proteins and other materials come in and out of the cell. Also the cell wall is only located in plant cells, when the cell membrane is located in both plant and animal cells.

The cell membrane is in both an animal and plant cell, and a cell wall is a stiff 'box' shape enclosing a plant cell. Think of it as a plastic bag, filled with jelly, with blobs of plasticene in is, the plasticene being the nucleus and the jelly the chlorophyll. The plastic bag is a cell membrane. This is an animal cell. Now add a small box and a few more different colored blobs of plasticene inside the bag- these are the plant cell's vacuole and chloroplasts. Put the plastic bag and its contents into a large box- this is a plant cell. The big box is the cell wall.

An animal cell consists of a cell membrane but not a cell wall.

How do cell wall and cell membrane differ?

A cell wall supports membrane , gives it a shape and protects it but, it is not present in all cells like it is not present in the animal and it is made of cellulose and cell membrane regulates what enters and leaves the cell so in other words it is selectively permeable and cell membrane is present in all the cells and it is made up of lipid bilayer.

the cell wall, or it could also be the cell membrane, the cell wall is outside the cell membrane

In a plant cell is there a cell membrane?

Yes there is a cell membrane underneath the cell wall. When the cell wall is removed, the cell membrane of plants is called a protoplast.

Where is a cell membrane of a plant cell?

The cell membrane (plasma membrane) is inside the cell wall. You can sometimes see the cell membrane if you look carefully but its right under the cell wall
