Both gametes, sperm and egg, are formed by meiosis which is a type of sexual reproduction. Male gametes, sperm, is slightly smaller and has a tadpole shape to it and also is very mobile and produced by tons, but female gametes, egg, are larger, less mobile, and there are not so many eggs as sperm.

the formation of male and female gametes involves meiosis. In spermatogenesis meiosis produce 4 sperm cells. In oogenesis, cytoplasm divides unequally & meiosis produce 3 polar bodies that do not survive and one egg cell.

the beginning of the two processes is similar, a germinal epithelial cell (spermatogonium-2n- or oogonium-2n) undergoes repeated cell divisions, then the resulting spermatogonia and oogonia undergo growth to form primary spermatocyte (2n) and primary oocyte (2n). that is where the similarity ends.

after that the primary oocyte undergoes meiosis I to form a secondary oocyte(n) and a first polar body is attached to it (n), the secondary oocyte contains most of the cytoplasm of the 2 cells . then it undergoes meiosis II to form an egg with a haploid number of chromosomes and 2 polar bodies attached to it, also haploid. one primary oocyte forms one egg.

the primary spermatocye would undergo meiosis I to form 2 secondary spermatocytes(n)

these 2 cells would undergo meiosis II to form 2 spermatids (n) each. spermatids then differentiate into sperms. each primary spermatocyte forms 4 sperms.

Male gamete formation produces 4 gametes that become 4 sperm.

Female gamete formation produces 1 gamete that becomes an ova. The 3 remaining cells lose all their cytoplasm to the single ovum and become polar bodies. Depending on the species the polar bodies can play a role in fertilization/pregnancy and in others they die.

In males, all four daughter cells produced by meiosis will become sperm cells. In females, only one of the four daughter cells produced by meiosis will become an ovum. The ovum gets most of the cytoplasm and the other three smaller cells are called polar bodies and will be reabsorbed.

What do you call an organ the produces gametes?

The testes in males and the ovaries in females produce gametes.

What best describes the daughter cells produced by meiosis?

Collectively they are called gametes. Separately they're called sperm in males and eggs in females.

What is function of gonads?

the function of gonads is to produce the gametes in both males and females.

What the function of gonads?

Is male gametes larger than females gametes?

Hardly. In mammals, for instance, the sperm of males is dwarfed by the egg of the female.

What are the number of gametes made in males?

Gametes are cells that each have half of the normal chromosomes of the individual they belong to. The reason for this is that during reproduction, the chromosomes in each of the gametes add together to create a full set of chromosomes. Each half a set of chromosomes comes from a different person, which is why sexual reproduction produces offspring with mixed and different traits than their parents. The gametes in males are sperm, and the gametes in females are ova(egg cells). I hope this helped out ;)

What are reproductive organs that produced gametes in both males and females called?

That would be the Gonads.

What correctly describes a difference between the male and female reproductive system?

males reproduce more gametes

What is meisosis how is it different in males and females?

Meiosis is type of cell division in which haploid gametes are formed .In human males ,it produces 4 sperms from one cell while in females only one egg and 3 non functional polar bodies are formed from one cell .

Do males and females have different abilities when estimating size?

do males and females have different abilities when eatimating size

Are males born with all of the gametes sex cells they will ever produce while females produce gametes from puberty onward?

No, reverse that. Females are born with every egg they will ever have. Males produce sperm cells from puberty until death, so long as disease or injury do not interfere.
