This technique was not very successful, and began to deteriorate within a few years of the work being completed. Several attempts have been made to restore, protect and/or repair the damage, with varying degrees of success; some of these attempts actually made the situation worse. The current situation is that the room has been closed off and climate controlled, and visitors are only allowed in limited numbers and for 15 minutes at a time.
