The president is the chief executive officer of the country. The mayor may be the chief executive office of his city or town, depending on how the local government is set up. ( The mayor may also be the leader of the city council which would be the legislative body of the city, with a city manager hired to run the city. In this case, his office would not be much like the president's office.
