The Receiver holds all the memories of pleasure and pain. People look up to The Receiver for advice because he has a lot of wisdom since he has all the memories. Also, the 5 requirements to be Receiver is courage, integrity, intelligence , wisdom , and capacity to see beyond. Nobody wants to have these memories because they want sameness and they can't bare the sensitivity and pain of it. They want the community to be same and safe. So basically, The Receiver is the holder of memories.

The first receiver in "The Giver" was a girl named Rosemary, who was chosen to become the Receiver of Memories before Jonas. Rosemary's experience as the Receiver did not go well, and the trauma of her failure had a lasting impact on the community.

∙ 13y agoThe receiver in the novel, The Giver, is a person who receives the memories of colorful times that only the giver holds. He also receives images of times no one else has ever known or received before. This was a special job for anyone who got the chance to be the important person. This is because, as I mentioned before no one else have ever seen or received this thoughts and images so it was very important to keep the thoughts a secret from everybody including the receivers friends and family.
