235U and 238U are two different isotopes of natural uranium.

235U has 143 neutrons and 238U has 146 neutrons.

The Atomic Mass of 235U is 235,043 929 918 ± 0,000 001 957 and the atomic mass of 238U is 238,050 788 247 ± 0,000 002 044.

235U is fissionable with thermal neutrons but 238U not; another nuclear properties are also very different; the chemical properties are the same.

When you see these numbers after elements, it indicated the ISOTOPE.

Now, in the atom's nucleus, you have Neutrons & Protons. If the number of Protons change, then you have a different element. But, if the number of Neutrons change, then you have the same element, just with different number of neutrons, which affects the way that particular isotope behaves in certain circumstances.

So, Uranium has 92 protons in its nucleus (this doesn't change). Uranium 238 has 238 particles in its nucleus, 92 of which are protons. So, 238-92= 146 neutrons in the nucleus (Number [minus] Protons = Neutrons).

Uranium 235 will have: 235-92= 143 neutrons in its nucleus.
