It is mostly due to habitat loss and fragmentation and a decline in quality of remaining habitat. Habitat fragmentation causes populations to become divided, creating smaller populations which are less connected and therefore at greater risk from disease, fire, predation, etc. If a species is already endangered, urbanisation puts more pressure on remaining populations and may encroach on crucial habitat. Urbanisation is unlikely to be the sole cause of extinction but it can contribute heavily to species becoming threatened or endangered.

Endangered species is when there is a certain type of animal that is losing its population. Extinction is a very old animal that has died out and there is none of them left, e.g dinosaurs.
A species is considered endangered, if it is considered to be facing a very high risk of extinction in the wild.
