What happens to your sin when you are baptized?

What baptism are you talking about? Infant baptism? Baptism of believers? Well the answer is much the same. Nothing happens to your sin when you are baptized. If you are a believer your sin is already dealt with before you get baptized. A believers baptism is a sign of the believers identifying with Christ in that Christ was buried and rose again the believer is buried (in water) and rises again to a new life. Infant baptism??? well there is nothing in the Bible that teaches infant baptism.

Can you use anything else instead of water for Baptism?

The Rite of Baptism in most Christian churches involves Holy (blessed) Water and Holy (blessed) Water. Some denominations use springs or streams, or even a bathtub filled with water--these are blessed by the clergy just before the Baptism. Full immersion (indoor or outdoor) for adult Baptism is practiced in many denominations; other denominations use a Baptismal font (especially for infant Baptism) or sprinkling of Holy Water on the person's forehead. For example, a disabled child or bedridden adult would not be denied Baptism just because they cannot be dunked or immersed in water. The Rite of Baptism is not to exclude, but to include people into the Family of God.

What are the similarities between infant baptism and believers baptism?

Answer: The similarities between infant baptism and believer's baptism are the following: - water is used - a profession of faith in Christ is made, either by the person being baptised (if he or she is old enough) or by the parents of the child being baptised.

How are you baptised?

Various Christian groups have different ways of baptizing a disciple. Some believe in infant baptism with 'Godparents' standing up for the baby who has a ceremony where its head is sprinkled with water. Others wait to various teenage years - the coming of age - to allow some type of water baptism. Others await adulthood for various types of water baptism with some using full immersion of the person into a body of water. This is closest to the biblical ways of John the Baptist, etals...

What were some religious or social beliefs of Anabaptism?

One obvious religious belief would come from the name Anabaptist itself. Which means to Baptize again. Anabaptist did not believe in infant water baptism but in believer water baptism. They hold that baptism is an act of obedience to Christ on the part of the believer and not an act of obedience to Christ on the part of the parents. So they practiced believer water baptism, to their own peril, at the time of the early reformation (1500's) when infant water baptism was widely held and practiced as a sacrament of the church. Withholding baptism from your infant children was a grave mortal sin on par with condemning your children to Hell should they die before being baptized. Anabaptism is still held today by members of the various Baptist and Mennonite churches. Anabaptism has come to mean more the practice of believer water baptism.

Why do Catholics sprinkle instead of full emerging in water?

If you are referring to Baptism, Catholics most definitely do NOT "sprinkle", they either immerse in water or POUR water three times over the head. If the water does not actually run on the head they do not consider that a baptism. I was "sprinkled" in the Methodist Church as an infant. I converted as a teenager and went to the seminary to study to be a priest. The priest who was teaching us about baptism said specifically that you could not sprinkle as the protestants do, or it wouldn't be a valid baptism. I put my hand up and asked about my Methodist baptism as an infant, only to find myself hustled over to the nearest parish later in the day and a proper baptism done!

What is meant by baptism?

"Baptism" comes from the Greek word "baptizo". It literally means "to plunge under" to submerge, to immerse. In christianity baptism can get contorted depending on which denomination you're with. Infant baptism is another related question. Obviously no one is going to plunge a baby under water. Thus the baptizing of babies by sprinkling their heads with water clearly isn't baptism. Baptism is meant to be an outward action that one makes when they decide to follow Jesus. The plunging under water is to represent dying and being buried with Jesus. The coming up from the water is parallel to Jesus' being raised from the dead to life. The new christian's baptism represents washing away the old and starting fresh with a new life in Jesus.
