windows does have the facility to give access to different users. That is the reason we can log on to different user accounts on windows. But windows does not give access to multiple users at the same time in a single processor system.

Microsoft even said that Linux is more of a threat than mac.

Is windows XP Vista better than just Windows Vista or is it the same thing?

There is no such thing as "Windows XP Vista." There is Windows XP and there is Windows Vista. They are two different versions of the Windows operating system (XP is older than Vista). As to which is better (XP or Vista) if that is your question -- I think most people would say that XP is better, but this probably depends on which operating system you are used to and what type of work you do with the computer. That said, even Windows Vista is out of date, now. New machines will have Windows 8 (or Windows 7 if it is slightly older).

What type of operating system does a video game system use?

Video game systems use their own operating systems normally, for example the PS3 has it own operating system that is built in and updated regularly. This said, some systems can use 3rd party operating systems although these are rare and usually pointless. For example Windows 95 can be ported to a PS3 but it pretty pointless and mostly just for show.

Is there a way for making PC games play on Apple computers?

Games will require a particular operating system to work. If the game is written for the Windows operating system then it will need Windows to be installed on the Mac for it to work. Specific Mac games are written for Mac OS X and will be labelled as such. That said it is possible to play some Windows games on a Mac without having Windows installed using CrossOver Games (See links below) which emulates the parts of Windows needed to play the game. This does not work for all games and may not work well for some games.

Did bill gates do the programming for the windows operating system?

Possibly he did part of it, but by that time he had a company (Microsoft) with many programers. Gary Kildall was the first person to create an operating system for the computers which was separate from the hardware. He was a PhD in computers and he named his system CP/M. The first versions of Windows were based on a system which was invented or designed by Tim Paterson. He named his system QDOS. Microsoft, a company founded by Bill Gates and his school friend Paul Allen in 1975 improved on it. It is a myth that Bill Gates invented Windows. He only founded the company which designed a more user friendly computer operating system called 'Windows' It is said that there was an oral agreement between the IBM (one of world leading companies in computers) and Gary Kildall but G. Kildall never benefited much, monetarily, from his invention. He died in 1996 and never got the credit he deserved for his invention.

Is Windows Vista compatible with Windows 7?

Windows Vista is an operating system, not an application. It does not run "on" Windows 7 so it cannot be said to be "compatible" with it. Drivers and applications written for Windows Vista will continue to work on Windows 7. The reverse may not necessarily be true. Vista and 7 use the same kernel, so there shouldn't be anything that doesn't work on 7 that works on Vista, but compatibility mode should fix most problems you would have.

What is the difference between windows and unix kernels?

A kernel is a generic term to represent the core or base of an operating system. Since the operating systems mentioned here are very different, so are the kernels. They are written differently with different goals in mind. Having said that, no matter what kernel or operating system you are talking about a kernel program shares the same goals no matter what the vendor is. A kernel has to be able to handle booting the system, running tasks, managing resources, and other tasks as required by an operating system. The kernel is also the resident part of the operating system; it never gets swapped out of memory. Since its function is so important it has to be memory resident all the time.

What is the cleanest looking operating system?

Operating systems graphical user interfaces (GUIs) can be customised and modified by the user to various degrees so they cannot be truly said to belong to the OS or be "cleanest". However, on of the cleanest OS interfaces available by default is Xfce for the Linux operating system. Also, the absolute cleanest interface is a command-line interface, of which many OS's possess, among which Windows (all versions), GNU/Linux, various flavours of Unices etc.

What are the comparisons between the windows 7 and Windows 8 operating system?

As one who has been playing around with windows 8 Rtm, i can tell you that windows 8, from a IT professional standpoint will be a absolute nightmare. That said, from the home user standpoint, it is wonderful, The new interface makes it easier for you to organize your program. All of your data gets synced in the skydrive and windows 8 is heavily tied to your microsoft account. this is great if you have a desktop and laptop. I will say that it will take a bit of time to get used to but once you are used to it you will love it.

Many New Software Programs Are Compatible Windows XP?

Microsoft released the original version of the Windows XP operating system in 2001. The company has said that it will stop supporting XP in 2014. Third-party software developers who create antivirus programs, multimedia players and system maintenance utilities still continue to release software that is compatible with older and newer versions of Windows. However, as time goes on, you should scrutinize the "System Requirements" section before purchasing and installing any software program for your XP computer, making sure it is compatible.

How do you install Ubuntu 9.10 over Windows 7?

It depends on what you are trying to do. If you install anything over Windows 7 that is not a windows based system you may lose some application functionality if the other system does not have an equivalent. The same could be said if installing Ubuntu, since it may have functionality that is not present in Windows 7.

Can you have two instances of the same program open at the same time?

This depends on the Operating System. For some yes, for others no. Some very old multiuser timesharing Operating Systems running on computers with very limited amounts of memory had a way to load a program once, but run many instances of it without having to reload it again. Modern computers with large memories and virtual memory have no need for this and simply reload the program every time another instance is needed. But as I already said, some Operating Systems cannot run more than one instance of any program at a time.

Can you use an old operating system to run new software like apples safari?

depends on the OS that's supported. for example, a program might support Windows XP, Vista, and 7. Windows XP is the oldest out of all those and it is supported. it all depends on what the program(such as what you said, Safari) itself supports. Look at apple's website to see what OSes Safari supports.

What is the best version of Microsoft Windows?

This is a very subjective question and the answer depends on your intended use. If you ask Microsoft, the best version is always the latest available version. If you plan to use only the very latest applications designed for that version, the answer is obvious. However if you need to run applications that work well on Windows XP and you do not really need the features of a new version, Windows XP has proven to be a very reliable, stable, consistent, well understood operating system. The same can be said for Windows 2000 and its predecessor Windows NT, however these lack some functionality now considered required by many users. Newer versions of Windows despite their claimed "compatibility modes" have proven unfriendly or incompatible to many popular legacy programs and hardware, and are disruptive to attempts to run open source operating systems and software alongside or within Windows.
