The basic function of Xylem is to transport water (and some soluble minerals) up from the roots and through the plant. Phloem transports organic nutrients - particularly sucrose (a sugar) - throughout the plant. Both are types of vascular tissue found in plants.

What are the two different types of vascular tissue?

Phloem and xylem are the two main types of vascular tissue found in plants. Xylem is the tissue that mainly carries water, and a few minerals, in the system. Phloem is the tissue that carries photosynthetic materials through the plant.

How is the xylem different from phloem?

xylem transports water and minerals while phloem transports products of photosynthesis and other metabolic processes.

How is pholem different from xylem?

Xylem is different from phloem structurally and functionally.Xylem consists of Tracheids, vessels and xylem parenchyma whereas phloem consists of Sieve tubes, companion cells and phloem parenchyma.Xylem conducts water and minerals to the leaves whereas phloem transports the prepared food from leaves to different parts of plant body.

Why is the difference between xylem and phloem important in a plant?

There is structural difference between xylem and phloem. This is because their function is also different. Had there been no difference in structure, how these could have performed different function?

What is the role of xylem in the vascular plant?

Transports water and nutrients upwards

What are the tissues responsiblefor transport in the stem?

phloem and xylem (sorry different countries spell/ call them differently.. xylem is normally the same but phloem can be phylem or any variation of the two)

How are moses different from other green plants?

They do not have stem, roots or leaves. No xylem or phloem.

What are the two vascular tissues found in the root and stem systems?

The two vascular tissues found in the root and stem systems are xylem and phloem. Xylem is responsible for transporting water and minerals from the roots to the rest of the plant, while phloem is responsible for transporting nutrients and sugars produced through photosynthesis to different parts of the plant.
