Disability affects people differently. It can be very frustrating. A disabled person is not a lazy person--they may still want to do activities but can't. Sometimes able bodied people make a disabled person feel ashamed, unworthy, a burden, and often, "stupid". Fighting for equal treatment is often very difficult. People treat people in wheelchairs as if they are children, such as asking a caregiver "how is SHE today", rather than asking the disabled person. Some yell, as if a physical disability means you are also deaf. People talk above your head; they act like you're invisible. Some speak slowly to you, as if you are mentally incompetent. Sometimes, people violate a disabled person's rights to privacy or their legal rights-- like, discussing a person's medical problem in front of someone who transported the person. Often, mistreatment comes from sheer lack of awareness or sensitivity. Other times, people are just cruel or mean spirited.
