It gets harder every year because the competition becomes tougher. Consider the nominations for the 64th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, for instance. "Mad Men" is again nominated for Outstanding Drama Series, an award it has won four consecutive years. Its chances of winning an unprecedented fifth drama award are not guaranteed because of the other well-regarded contenders in the category: "Boardwalk Empire" (HBO), "Breaking Bad" (AMC), "Downton Abbey" (PBS), "Game of Thrones" (HBO) and "Homeland" (Showtime). Notice that all of the 2011-2012 drama nominees are cable series and that network shows such as CBS' "The Good Wife" were shut out.
