First of all, the toad (actually a lizard) is cold blooded, meaning it won't get as hot as fast in the desert where it lives. Its coloring is also perfectly suited to the color of the sand and brush of a desert, where its coloring would make it stand out in a forest. The animals it eats also live in the desert.
