As long as the mother is socialized you should be able to hold the babies immediately. Give her some time and space with them for the first day, then when she is away from the nest, feed her something special and while she is eating, hold the babies. She should be fine as long as you are gentle and return them to the nest when she is ready. Make sure not to mess up her nest, and to keep the babies warm. If she is not very well socialized, I would wait a bit longer, then hold them. You want to hold them as early as possible to ensure that they become well socialized. Good luck :)

To be safe, wait until the mice open their eyes. By this time, they aren't really dependent on their mother. You may be able to hold them just after they get fur, but you run the risk of the mother abandoning them. Touching them before they have fur is mostly a big no, since your scent will replace the baby's scent, and the mother will most likely abandon or eat the baby. This really depends on the mother. Some mice may be ok with you holding their babies, others won't. In order to avoid any risks, though, try to wait until they don't depend on their mother.

If you want to give away your pet baby mouse when can it leave its mother?

The baby mouse can leave it's mother when it's about four weeks or older. At that time, the baby mouse is fully weaned of mother's milk. The baby mouse should also be eating solid foods as well.

When can you handle a mouse that has given birth?

Wait until three days after the mother has given birth before you handle either mother or babies. After three days, you can safely handle the mother mouse, and the baby mice as well. That way, the mother and the mice has had a chance to bond and settle down from the hectics of giving birth and being born.

Should the male mouse be around when the female mouse has her babies?

Not really... the male mouse will probably mate with her shortly after she gives birth and this can put stress on the mother, and could cause her to eat her babies.

Can you put a baby mouse with an adult mouse?

It depends on what relation ship the baby has with the adult. if it is its mother than probably. but keep quiet, any sudden noises can scare the mother and this can result to it eating its young. if it is a male mouse than this may not be a good idea as they are very territorial and may kill the baby.

What does a baby field mouse eat without his family?

I am not certain how old is a 'baby' field mouse. They like greens and can forage. A nursling would likely not survive without its mother. You could feed a nursling with a dropper and some baby food, perhaps.
