When you are ready to. It really depends on the type of hysterectomy you have as a laproscopic will be much quicker than abdominal. If your job entails lifting then you shouldn't return till you are fully fit. Average times are 2-4 weeks laproscopic, 4-6 abdominal. Speak with your doctor before you return and remember your employer may not let you return unless they are fully satisfied you are fit and may demand a return certificate from him.

This is really up to you and your surgeon/doctor and is when you feel fit enough. It also depends on the type of work you do as heavy objects should not be lifted in the first four weeks. In fact for the fist week you should not lift more than a kilo. The average times without complications are 4-6 weeks for laproscopic and 6-8 weeks for abdominal but it varies very much on the individual and your body will tell you if you are doing too much.

Not everybody is the same so it is difficult to know how long it will take you. I had a complete hysterectomy and I returned to work after 4 weeks. Although I might have been able to return in 2, I still felt swollen and my employer allowed me the time I needed to heal. My advice: Don't rush back. Take time for yourself!
