How long ago did Odysseus live?

Odysseus is known to us only as a character in the Greek epic poems Iliad and Odyssey, which tell the story of the Trojan War and its aftermath. Scholars are not in agreement over whether the Trojan War was an actual historical event, but if it was, archaeological evidence and cultural references in the poems themselves seem to indicate a date sometime in the 1200's B.C.
