Political science is a major, just like any other majors. It depends on what you want to do with it. You can get a bachelor's degree (4 years), however, with Political Science, your options would be limited as to what you can do with a bachelor's. You would likely end up working as a police officer, or possibly probation officer.
You could also obtain a Master's degree or a PhD. It all depends on what you want to do with it.
In the northeast the best college to go to for science is Princeton University I really recommend it as long as you get good grades

As long as you pass all the appropriate college entrance exams and pass the state required high school graduation test, being accepted into college in NY shouldn't be a problem.
