When your body goes into this mode your body releases adrenalin which in dumps fuel (glucose/glycogen) into the blood. Which gives you tons of energy, allowing to stay and fight off your attacker (this is when you hear about people lifting cars off of their children, fighting off people twice their size, basically super human strength.) or it will give you energy to get out of there very very quickly. Either way the benefit is hopefully survival; but that also depends making the correct choice.
