Dr Goh was Singapore 2nd deputy prime minister from 1973 and 1984. He is considered one of Singapore's founding fathers, who made great contributions to the economy of Singapore, which was then still a very young country.
Dr Goh initiated the idea of creating Jurong Island, which then still sat on swamps. In addition, Dr Goh also proposed having National Service. This meant that all men at the age of 18 will have to serve the army, which helped to maintain the defence of the country.
Dr Goh was born on the 6th October 1918 and passed away on the 14th May 2010. He was 91 years old.
