In 1741, following botanical expeditions to Lapland and Europe, and three years in Stockholm (where he practised medicine, specifically the treatment of syphilis), Linnaeus moved back to Sweden to take up professorship at Uppsala University. n 1758 he bought the manor estate of Hammarby, outside Uppsala, where he lived until his death in 1778.
