In 1888 the Metropolitan Police had a force of 15,000. However this did not include the police that covered the City of London. The City, as it is refered to, is the one square mile in the center of London. Similar to Washington, DC and the Vatican in Rome. The Metro police patroled the rest of the city outside of that square mile.

Part of the reason the Ripper's case remains so notorious is that he was never caught. In the summer of 1888 when the Ripper took the lives of seven prostitutes within the span of a couple months, technology available was nowhere near what we have today. His case gained notoriety because he was so cunning about how he struck and probably blended into a crowd. Back then, the authorities thought that the one responsible was a foreigner or street rat. However, today it is believed that he was a prominent figure in society. Due to the fact that the Ripper had extensive knowledge of anatomy, the evidence suggests that he was a well educated man. Through the years people have pointed fingers at surgeons, artists and even royals. Despite how many theories exist, the fact remains that Jack the Ripper was never officially captured. The case remains open to this day.

During the height of the Ripper crimes police investigated literally hundreds of suspects. Unfortunately, none of them were the real Ripper. As the Ripper case entered it's second century the list of possible killers continued to grow. But like in 1888, most of those named as Ripper suspects are mostly ridiculous to the point of being unbeleavable. My personal favorite is the "Jill the Ripper" theory.

Is Jack the Ripper still alive?

* No-one ever knew who Jack the Ripper was * Jack the Ripper was never sent to jail * Jack the Ripper's crimes were committed in 1888. * That was 120 years ago. Now, ask your question again!

Why did Jack The Ripper carry out his murders in a very short space of time?

He didn't. Jack The Ripper's crimes continued long after the murder of Mary Jane Kelly on November 9, 1888. Many believe the Ripper was still killing as late as 1891, and possibly after the turn of the 20th century.

How did Elizabeth stride die?

There is no historical record or evidence to suggest that Elizabeth Stride, who was a victim of Jack the Ripper, died by any means other than being murdered. She was found dead with her throat cut in the early hours of September 30, 1888, in Whitechapel, London. The identity and motive of Jack the Ripper remain unknown.

How is Jack the Ripper remembered today?

Unfortunately, the killer known as Jack The Ripper has become a legend. He is by far the most infamous serial killer of all time. The fact that he was never caught lends an air of mystery about him. This single killer has inspired books, movies, Ripper walks, and Ripper websights, and the interest seems to grow with each passing year. I think it is very sad that he is remembered, yet his victims seem almost inconsequential to the public. In the 1990's headstones were finally placed on the graves of Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride and Mary Kelly, a long overdue memorial to the women that had the misfortune to cross paths with Jack The Ripper.

How long before cops find you for a hit and run?

What did Jack the Ripper kill his victims with?

i belive it was a long butchers knive it needs to be a strong blade to do the work needed to get the organs however it could be a knive from where he worked a hospital

Why is the theory that Jack the Ripper might have been and surgeon or a butcher?

The theory that Jack the Ripper was a surgeon or vet has no real basis. It has long been thought that since the Ripper removed organs that he must have had knowledge of human anatomy. One has only to look at photos or drawings of the victim's wounds to know that this killer deserved the name of "ripper". He literally ripped into his victims, cutting, stabbing and slashing in a near frenzy that lacked all evidence of precision. It would not have been difficult for the killer to have laid hands on a book of anatomy which could have given him a general idea of the locations of internal organs.

Can you buy the Diary of Jack The Ripper?

The actual diary that came to be known as Jack The Ripper's Diary has been studied and deemed a 'hoax'. The diary was from the Ripper's era, Victorian age London. That part was authentic. But the book was written by English businessman James Maybrick, not the real Jack The Ripper. The idea that Maybrick could have been the Ripper is quite amusing. At the onset of the Ripper murders, Maybrick was well into his 50s. Lived way outside London, with a considerable commute time, and most prohibitive of all was the fact that Maybrick was a long-time arsenic addict. Arsenic, a heavy metal poison, had taken a huge toll on Maybrick by the 1880s. He was weakened, had numbness in his feet and hands that was spreading, and spent most of his waking moments when not doing his business, in the pursuit of his next 'fix'. To make matters worse, Maybrick had a wife that had taken on a lover, Maybrick all to aware of this, seemed to be in a quandry as to what to do about it. This was the supposed reason for him roaming the east end hacking up down-and-out prostitutes. The whole idea is rediculous. The crimes of Jack The Ripper are sexually motivated, not revenge. They were not about a cheating wife. And Maybrick, by the time of the murders, was having problems physically due to his due to his long-time addiction. So if we look at the entire picture, Maybrick was the wrong age, wrong personality, had no motive, he was not in the city at the time of at least several of the murders. The actual diary as far as I know was never published. You can find books about the diary and about Maybrick and although the diary is from the Victorian era, since it really has nothing to do with the real Ripper case it has more or less faded from the spotlight.

Was the chalk message that Jack the Ripper left above Catherine Eddowes irrelevant to the police?

You are talking about The Goulston Street graffito. This is the name given to some writing on a wall that was found beside a clue in the Whitechapel murders investigation. It was found at 108-119 Wentworth Model Dwellings, by PC Alfred Long on 30 Sunday 1888. This chalk-written message has been the subject of many a debate both as to its relevance if written by the Ripper and as to whether it was written by Jack the Ripper at all. Some have theorized that the message was written prior to Mrs Eddowes murder and quite possibly, Mrs Stride's murder, which of course, occurred prior to the Mitre Square tragedy on the same night. It is a matter of opinion, rather than fact, that the Ripper was illiterate or unskilled in English. There is no certainty that the Goulston Street writing was the work of Jack the Ripper.

Is winx DVD ripper legal?

it is hard to find source if it is or not i believe it is as long as you do not make copies of a DVD and sell it or give it or rent it to someone else

Who did Jack The Ripper murder first?

Although for over a century it was believed that the Ripper murders began with the death of Mary Ann (Polly) Nichols on August 31 1888. It is more likely that Martha Tabram, killed on August 6, 1888, was murdered by the same killer as Nichols. Some believe that an even earlier murder may have been by the Ripper. Emily Smith was attacked in the spring of 1888 but lived long enough to tell family that she was attacked by at least 3 men. I doubt Smith's death was a Ripper killing.
