He began a third movement, but went on to other projects. The symphony was discovered many years after his death.There are also many who claim Schubert wrote only 7 completed Symphonies + the "unfinished." The Great C Major used to be listed as #7 until they realized it was written after the b minor (the 8th.) And so they renumbered it #9. So now there's no #7. (In fact, there are Schubert symphony sets which list the "unfinished" as #7 and the C Major as #8!)Believe it or not, Schubert wrote over 600 songs.
