The Humber Bridge, spanning The Humber Estuary between Yorkshire and Lincolnshire had been planned since the 1930's. Construction began on 26 July 1972 and the bridge was opened to traffic on 24 June 1981. There was an official opening ceremony, conducted by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, on 17 July 1981. Work began in 1973 and the bridge finally opened in 1981, so it took 8 years to build.
