Honeypot ants tending a "herd" of aphids - the ants "milk" the aphids for honeydew.
No, a honeypot ant is not a herbivore. Honeypot ants primarily feed on nectar and honeydew from aphids, but they are classified as omnivores because they also consume other food sources, including plant matter and insects. The defining characteristic of honeypot ants is their ability to store food in their swollen abdomens, which they regurgitate to feed other colony members.
While honeypot ants eat, their abdomen can reach the size of a small grape. The ant itself is just the size of common red ants. Sometimes they swell up so much that they are rendered inable to move.
Honeypot ants are unique because they have a special group of workers that the rest will forcefeed with nectar, so much they will swell up and become unable to move. They'll hang from the ceiling of special chambers, their abdomen (butt) completely swollen. Whenever the other ants need food in a time of shortage, these honeypots will regurgitate their nectar to feed the rest. They're living storage. ^^
They live up to 8-10 weeks
i think they live about a week each and so the queen has to keep suppling ants. take it from me who has many dogs, cats, lizards, fish, and bugs. :)
A Bullet ant usually will live for up to 90 days. There are other species of ants that have shorter lifespans and longer lifespans. The queen can live much longer than the regular worker Bullet ants.
Harvester ants live 2-6 months, but fire ants live about 3.Read more: How_long_can_ants_livepls like this thanks for reading:)
